Essential Pistol & Carbine is designed to provide foundational training for new shooters, concealed carriers, and defenders who want to become safer, faster, and more confident with these firearm platforms.

Taught by Chris Cerino and instructors at Range Ready, this course goes beyond basic safety—introducing real-world skills like holster and sling work, malfunction clearing, and efficient firearm manipulation. No fluff, no range politics—just solid, actionable instruction.

What You’ll Learn

This two-day course provides the knowledge, experience, and repetitions to safely and efficiently operate your pistol and carbine and begin developing reliable shooting habits. You’ll walk away understanding:

• How to confidently grip, draw/present, and operate the pistol & carbine
• Why shot placement matters
• How to fix common shooting mistakes and malfunctions
• The building blocks of accuracy and fast follow-up shots
• The mindset and mechanics needed to pursue further training

• Mechanics of grip and platform
• Drawing from a holster safely and efficiently
• Proper sling use
• Effective Zero and trajectory
• Sight alignment and sight picture fundamentals
• Trigger press for accuracy and control
• Reloading techniques and gear manipulation
• Clearing basic malfunctions
• Personal safety and 360° awareness
• Solid "make ready" and administrative handling habits

Special Considerations

Everyone is welcome. This is a foundational-level course ideal for new shooters, returning shooters, concealed carriers, and defenders who want real training outside of a static lane. Men, women, and accompanied responsible youth are encouraged to attend.

Required Equipment (pistol)

• Semi-automatic pistol (with a minimum of 3 magazines; more for lower capacity pistols)
• Sturdy gun belt (pants or shorts with belt loops)
• Strong-side OWB holster and magazine holder
• Eye and ear protection (electronic preferred)
• 400 rounds of ammunition

Required Equipment (carbine)

• AR 15 or Similar (with a minimum of 3 magazines)
